PHOTOJOURNALISM
A picture is worth a thousand words. Here are some of the photos I have taken over the years for publications.
PUSHING THROUGH THE PAIN
I wrote Pushing through the pain, published both in Scot Scoop and The Highlander, to call attention to the toxic culture present in many sports that encourages athletes to work through injuries to the detriment of their physical and mental wellbeing. I shot this series of Juliette Jaques, a gymnast I interviewed who was a victim of the "hush culture" surrounding pain, as she prepared her injured body to train.
ATHLETICS DURING COVID-19
I wrote an article for The Highlander, Carlmont High School's print publication, about the shutdowns and limitations of athletic facilities during COVID-19 due to the social distancing and sanitary restrictions. I wanted to capture both the new facility requirements for those that remained open and athletes practicing in different locations due to the closures of their facilities. I took these photos over a few weeks, going to facilities and athletes' at-home practice spaces to capture their distanced training sessions and limited abilities.
THE SANTA ROSA GLASS FIRE
I contributed to a special climate change feature for Scot Scoop, Carlmont's online publication. At the time, a terrible fire had devasted parts of Santa Rosa. I interviewed a resident in the area, and he offered to give me and a fellow writer a tour of the area. We drove two hours down to the area to get images of the destruction. I wanted to capture the incredible depth and scope of the damage to the community.
